All areas will develop a post-16 Common Application Process linked to the 14-19 Prospectus by 2010.
Management reports from the Common Application Process
Identifying the demand for courses
Identifying those learners likely to become NEET
Information within the CAP is accessible and transferable
Implement secure and controlled access to learner information
Follow common approaches and standards but tailor each CAP towards the specific needs of an area in a bespoke way.
The CAP provides a workflow approach to learners' course applications and reports against the various stages. For example, it can report by learner applications accepted by a provider and those that have been rejected. It can also report by categories of learners: by gender, ethnicity, school and level.
14-19 Partnerships are better able to identify the potential and actual demand for courses from the Common Application Process, including the implications for learners having to travel to learn and their progression routes. The CAP will better inform the 14-19 commissioning process and help to meet the September Guarantee.
Course applications could be copied to Client Caseload Information Systems enabling learner progress reports to be generated from an integrated CCIS. Those learners who are not using the prospectus could be identified as well as those needing assistance. Connexions personal advisers, teachers and learners would benefit from this process.
Learners are able to access the CAP 24 hours a day. Data contained within the CAP can be used to develop an individual learning plan and/or curriculum vitae. Standards are being developed to allow CAP and the Individual Learning Plan to be delivered as part of the IAG curriculum.
The Common Application Process complies with industry accessibility standards. Any learner data is stored and accessed securely through strict controls and conforms to Data Protection requirements. The XCRI process is looking to transfer data between systems and may be developed in the near future with approval from MIAP.
Although every CAP will follow common approaches and standards, we believe it is vital that each system is tailored towards the specific needs of a particular area in a bespoke way. We regularly seek feedback from stakeholders to continually refine the system, and adapt it as legislation and requirements change.
